Newark Castle Archers was formed in Spring of 2014 after a number of messages were put onto a Facebook page to see what interest there was in a forming an archery club in Newark. The initial interest was staggering, so a number of meetings were held and a committee was formed.

An open day was held on Sunday 27th April 2014 and the interest was overwhelming. We had over 50 people attend. A beginners course waiting list had already been in place and after the open day we had 40 people with their names down. Our first club shoot was held on Monday 28th April which we had 9 people shooting. With the help of Notts Archery Association and a local coach the club was able to hold 3 beginners courses during our first summer season. The courses proved very popular and hugely enjoyed by everyone taking part. We held our first club tournament in August and we had competitions in adult recurve, adult bare bow, adult longbow and juniors. This will be an annual tournament held in August and known as The Summer Trophy. As of November 2014 we had 27 members including a large number of juniors.

Now 4 years old, Newark Castle Archers is a thriving club currently training at Newark Rugby Club on Wednesday and Sunday Evenings.

We have been very grateful to the Newark Advertiser for the help they have given us over the years in various articles which has helped to raise our profile. We’d also like to thank Radio Newark for the opportunity to promote our club.
